Ha'penny Bridge

Dublin

The conservation of this bridge was a Millenium project of Dublin City Council. In order to ensure the preservation of the wrought iron superstructure, detailed testing was carried out into the strength of the material. The bridge mouths were redesigned to increase the capacity of the bridge, while the deck levels were adjusted to more closely follow the elliptical form of the cast iron original arches, which themselves were conserved and repaired. A sophisticated painting scheme, following the original colour scheme as revealed by paint analysis was executed under a temporary enclosure.
