Christ Church Cathedral Crypt
Dublin 8
Restoration of the crypt included the provision of new flooring and new heating and electrical services. The ‘chancel’ space now houses a treasury of cathedral plate, of Williamite and Jacobite origin, with concomitant security issues. The crypt is available for meetings and other functions. Mechanical air handling was introduced in an unobtrusive manner, with cast iron grilles feeding air in through the main new element, the stone floor, which is held away from the mediaeval masonry. Innovative approached to fire escape and emergency lighting was necessary in this project.
